2009 Project Registry
By the time Healthy Schools Day in Canada - Journée des écoles saines du Canada was announced on April 27, 2009, there were over 35 organizations “from coast to coast to coast” working together to focus attention on creating and maintaining healthy school environments in Canada.
Here are a sampling of the projects that took place last year:
Creation of Canadian national Healthy Schools Day
In 2009, Canadians for A Safe Learning Environment (CASLE) www.casle.ca coordinated the creation of the first-ever Canadian national Healthy Schools Day to focus attention on healthy indoor environments for schools. A dozen national and provincial organizations met to declare that the first annual Healthy Schools Day in Canada would be April 27, 2009. Our Healthy Schools Day in Canada - Journée des écoles saines du Canada coincides with the US National Healthy Schools Day in order to maximize the benefits for both countries.
Proclamation in Parliament
Halifax West MP Geoff Regan announced in Parliament the creation of national Healthy Schools Day in Canada - Journée des écoles saines du Canada. A video of this announcement can be seen on CASLE’s website www.casle.ca.
Featured Manitoba School: Ecole Robert H. Smith
As a founding partner in Healthy Schools Day in Canada, the Children’s Health & Environment Partnership of Manitoba profiled Ecole Robert H. Smith for the inaugural year, and celebrated student, parents and faculty efforts on improving the quality of environment inside and outside of their school.
